Podcasting in 2020

I am really excited to start a podcast, just like the 100 million other people who have done so during quarantine. I am very realistic on my expectations for this podcast; it is a hobby for fun, not something that will pay my mortgage. That being said, I really am going to take this seriously and think it will be an incredibly entertaining adventure.

Personally, I am a fan of “free-flowing conversation” shows. That’s more my style but I would be curious to hear what most folks think. As a listener, while I appreciate segments because I’m incredibly A.D.D, I also think in some circumstances they can limit the depth of a conversation. One of my biggest issues with media today is the shallowness of complicated subjects.

One of the biggest unforeseen issues of advertising being the financial structure for media for the last century, is how dumbed down the conversation has become. Advertising is in control of the money, so they have expectations to take consistent breaks. The problem with that is many issues are incredibly fucking complicated and a 4 minute chat about it doesn’t really get into it. Interviews are getting SO much better on outlets that are more subscription based where they can go as long as needed. That being said, who has time for that shit sometimes?

My goal for “Mil-Talkie” is going to be a bit of a hybrid. I’m going to play with it and it will evolve wherever it ends up, but I am going to stay vigilant on doing it my way. I don’t want to do a podcast “how you should” because it has to be my voice. I want it to be informal. I want it to be crass. I want it to be fucked up at times. I want those things because that’s how the world truly is and all I want is some real conversations with interesting people.
