This will get so much worse…

A friend of mine shared today how shocked she was about a campaign ad against Biden. While I can appreciate positive outlooks in life, when it comes to Donald Trump in 2020, people need to remember one simple sentence; “this will get so much worse”.

There is no depths to his shallowness. He is fighting for his freedom. While I can’t stand most politicians, this is not a normal run of the mill shitty politician. I am more shocked how people are still surprised at this point then by what he says. There’s also a very simple reason for why it will always get worse. This playbook has been written and repeated historically countless times. If you want to understand why, all you have to look at is cult leaders and authoritarians.

Their appeal is their passion. They really are the same type of person. Fascism is just a political cult. These people prey on fear and emotions. So when your entire argument is based on fear and emotion, the one rule is you can’t go backwards. Every day, every week, every month, every year… you just have to keep raising the stakes.

Ever notice how cults start off with a simple premise? Or fascism begins with some basic promise? Scientology appealed to those who valued “science” but had a religious void in their life. “Build the Wall” sounded good to simple racists who lost their jobs and loved the idea of blaming immigrants instead of corporations. You start with something simple to hook them but each time you raise the stakes, it gets a bit crazier.

That’s how we started with Build the Wall and have become numb through the countless crimes of the past years. It always will get worse because he has no other options. They don’t have a plan other than fear and they have to win. Remember the caravan in 2018? As soon as the midterms was over, that disappeared.

So whenever you think “wow, I can’t believe he did this”, just remember it will get so much worse. He’s fighting for his freedom and the amount of lies and fear he will peddle have no limit. Stop being surprised. This year is going to be a decade.
